Immigrant communities face stressors unique to their experiences. Such experiences often lead to or compound existing mental health conditions. Immigrant communities also access mental health care at much lower rates than the general population, which may be due to cultural stereotypes or “taboos” related to mental health in their communities or that there are no culturally or linguistically appropriate services to help immigrants access available community services. RAMS Adult/Older Adult Outpatient Clinic, RAMS’ first program, was founded to provide culturally and linguistically responsive services to historically underserved immigrant communities, including Asian and Pacific Islander communities and San Francisco’s Russian-speaking communities.
