On May 29, 2026, the RAMS Pacific Islander Wellness Initiative and Regional Pacific Islander Taskforce proudly hosted the 3rd Annual Pacific Islander Graduation Celebration, honoring 22 Pacific Islander graduates from across Alameda County public and private high schools.

More than 200 family members, community leaders, educators, and distinguished guests gathered to celebrate this important milestone, recognizing not only the graduates’ academic achievements but also the determination and cultural pride that brought them to this moment. Alameda County District 2 Supervisor Elisa Marquez joined the celebration alongside Johnny O’Brien from Family Bridges, and Tavae Samuelu from Asian Pacific Fund, demonstrating the strong community partnerships that support Pacific Islander students and families.

 

 

Delivering an inspiring keynote address, Dr. Wesley Hingano encouraged graduates to embrace their identities with confidence, leaving them with a message that resonated throughout the room:

“Be Proud. Be Brown. Be Hella Hayward!”

 

 

The celebration reflected the richness of Pacific Islander culture and community, featuring a shared meal by CHamoru caterer, bestowing leis and hakus for every graduate, and a moving senior performance choreographed by Le Ala Polynesian Dance instructors. The Joe and Grace Seko Family, owner of Pineapple Head Ice Cream & More, provided creamy pineapple soft serves to sweeten the celebration. Surrounded by family, mentors, and community supporters, graduates were celebrated not only for where they have been, but for the bright futures that lie ahead.
