About Us

Inspired by the intricate, colorful picture painted by Dr. K. Kia Bunseki Fu-Kiau and A.M. Lukondo-Wamba in their work, Kindezi: The Kongo Art of Babysitting, we adopted “Kindezi” as a distinguished moniker because our model is about building a healthy and richly diverse community of supporters around our growing babies and, of course, their expecting and new parents. We demonstrate this by co-creating a robust and comprehensive Black perinatal wellness program, integrating the “art” of mental health and soul-care practice with the nurturing care of skilled and respected birth workers.

Meet Our Team

Furtuna Williams, BS Public & Holistic Health

Community Resource Navigator

“I come from the beautiful country of Eritrea in East Africa. I am a first-time mother to twin girls, which has been an exciting yet challenging experience. Recently, I completed my training and became a licensed lactation specialist. This has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to breastfeed my twin daughters effectively. I am passionate about supporting other parents on their journeys, and I am here to provide guidance, share resources, and help you fully enjoy the rewarding experience of parenthood.”

Amber Ellis, LCSW, ASW

Mental Health Counselor

“In order to help co-create wellness in the community, I listen with warmth and compassion to support folks on their healing journey. I am honored to nurture the vulnerability, wisdom, and talents of individuals and families to create what they want out of life.”

Sherri Brooks, LCSW

Mental Health Counselor

“I help to co-create wellness in our Black birthing community by bringing my experience as a Black mother, birthing support person, family advocate, and mental health professional to a safe space. A space where compassion, understanding, emotional support, village building, and healing can take place.”

Stephanie Milton, MDiv, MA

Pastoral Care Specialist

“I strive to help co-create wellness by fostering a safe and compassionate space where families can explore their experiences and find healing. Through spiritual guidance, active listening, and culturally sensitive care, I empower parents to embrace their stories and community care with confidence and peace.”
